I grew up in Abilene. Well, mostly. My parents moved here when I was three. I lived happily in Abilene until I was thirty. Then, I moved to Austin/Lakeway, until eventually moving back to Abilene in 2018 (24 years in Austin).
There are lots of pros/cons to living in BOTH of the cities that I’ve called “home”. I’ve always loved my hometown. Also, I can’t say enough good things about my experiences in Austin/Lakeway. Good times!
But, simply put, I hate seeing things like this… in Abilene…
So many unkempt areas of overgrown vegetation, dirty gutters, etc. Many of these areas are the responsibility of private property owners; but SO much of it is CITY owned easements that have just been neglected.
I’m sure you’ve seen the signs on highways, just on the outskirts of city limits, that say “Adopt a Highway”.
Well, I’M gonna take this ONE corner of Abilene as my personal “adoption” goal to make a difference. Perhaps you could pick an area to call “Yours!”?

In that first photo, do you know the reason for the little circle patches in that walkway. I have some first hand facts about them you find find interesting. And another proof I have of the moronic city council miss handling and spending of city monetary funds.
Well, Originally just thought they were for traction; but, now I know otherwise. Unless… You have something that is different from what I found?? Detectable warning pavers???
